The university places are a universe of emotions and sensations. See oneself in others; waiting for a review, finishing a presentation, concentrating on reading, doing nothing. Here I sit and wait for my sister who has just submitted her thesis. And you see the others.
The logic of these corridors is not necessarily understood at first glance, but it is impossible to get lost in this, hopefully, "box of miracles" where the density is porous. The light floods rooms and corridors alike, now you, now me. And then beyond, the space does not end.
There is down and up, and up, all at the same time. Ordered bays of full and empty spaces according to a recurring pattern at various scales. 2M=P+G (2 medium ones equal to the smallest one), 2G=3M (two large ones equal to 3 medium ones), and so on; in the rooms, in the carpentry, the cutting, in the position of the corridors, threaded into the underlying structure of the parallel flat porticos. If more light, more depth, but there is enough headroom, the calculation will tell. The double circulation also recurs, the space does not end.
And the program is solved in one of many possible ways, 2M=P+G.
The usual question; What makes a space contemporary, apart from the look? Why do you have to continue rehearsing what your head understands even if you haven't seen it yet, or if you have seen it, right?
"Today is always still," Machado says
